Они трудились в различных следственных органах — от «майорских» канцелярий до Розыскной конторы Вышнего суда. На основе архивных документов практически впервые освещены перипетии служебных карьер и биографии первых следователей, которыми в основном являлись офицеры гвардии Преображенского и Семеновского полков. Наряду с этим приведены уникальные подробности расследовавшихся ими резонансных уголовных дел, основная часть которых была возбуждена по эпизодам мздоимства и казнокрадства правительственных чиновников разного уровня. Рассмотрены прежде неизвестные сюжеты, когда следователи сами подвергались уголовному преследованию. The book tells the story of people who investigated criminal cases in Russia in the first quarter of the 18th century. They worked in various investigative bodies - from the 'major' offices to the High Court's Investigative Office. On the basis of archival documents, almost for the first time, the vicissitudes of careers and biographies of the first investigators, which were mainly officers of the Guard of the Preobrazhensky and Semyonovsky Regiments, were covered for the first time. At the same time, unique details of the high-profile criminal cases investigated by them are given, the bulk of which was initiated by episodes of bribery and treasury of government officials of different levels. Previously unknown plots were considered, when the investigators themselves were prosecuted. From the book the reader learns for the first time about the many mysteries of criminal justice of the era of peter the Great's one-man rule.
